Mary Scott King of Huntington Beach, CA died an untimely death in a freak snowboarding accident in the snaggle-tooth San Juan Mountains of CO on 1/16/2010.
She and boyfriend Carlo Nafarrete spent their proposal week in the mountains, capped off by Telluride Helitrax snowboarding runs at the end of the week in the Mineral Creek Basin, just east of Ophir, where the accident occurred.
She touched countless lives: in her work at Rockwell and Boeing advising and managing benefits for employees; in a decade-plus mentoring of high school girls; volunteering in various groups; with those seeking consciously, deliberately and creatively to improve their personal lives; and, with individual outdoor sports enthusiasts who share a love of life and nature with her.
Mary Scott leaves behind boyfriend Carlo Nafarrete of Cypress, CA and all those wonderful persons mentioned above whose hearts and lives were touched by her live-well/laugh-often/love-unconditionally all ways; mother [Mary Lisle Tucker, McKenney, VA], father [Hardin ‘Corky’ King, Mt Angel, OR]; and, three sisters and their families [Margaret King of Tracy, CA and sons Stephen & Patrick; K.C. McHale of Medford, NJ and husband Jerry and children Drew, Taylor and Zach; Helen Lisle King of Prescott Valley, AZ and husband Rick Cimaglia.]
Her family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her memory to either:
1) Ocean View High School Business Academy of Huntington Beach.
Checks should be made payable to OVHS Foundation w/ MaryScott King Scholarship on the memo line. Mailing address:

Mary Scott was a great friend in college, and then a great long distance friend. I’m heartbroken, but I can attest to the full and rich life she lived. My prayers are with her family and with Carlo, who I have not met but of whom Scott spoke so warmly.
I hope people post recent pictures…. particularly of Scott in a dress. I’d like to see what that looks like. In college, when I saw her almost daily, she loved her jeans.

Mary Scott was my friend and team mate since 1990 in Team Paramount Skates where she excelled and shined with her personality, toughness and determination. When the team dissolved we continued seen each other at many events and teaming like all partners. She will be very missed by all her skating friends. She surely was a figure on wheels in Huntington Beach and the local skating community. Miss you kid….
